For those shopping for the first time in the small luxury crossover SUV segment, choosing the right vehicle in this segment can be a daunting task given the available options. The new 2017 Volvo XC60 is one among the plethora of those options, and just to single it out, it provides features highlights such as great safety scores, generous cargo space, strong and efficient turbocharged engines, and comfortable seats. It is better choice particularly for those seeking a cavernous interior, and top-safety features.
The Volvo XC60 prototype has been spied testing in Amsterdam, and going by preliminary investigations, it seems like the new model is set to get mild exterior changes. The interior is also rumored to sport some upgrades on the technology and materials front. What lurks beneath the engine is however a mystery for now. But even as we’re left to contemplate about the missing dots, Volvo has made its fans proud by at least offering them the pricing details of the 2017 XC60. As we shall later see, pricing starts at $40,950 for the most basic version representing a slight reduction over the price of the existing model that costs around $42,950.
Ever since its introduction back in 2010, Volvo has continuously offered the XC60 modern redesigns that have helped it shake a reputation for being boring. And just like its immediate predecessor, the new model offers a stylish cabin and sleek good looks. Despite the moderate changes the new model is expected to feature, it remains a Volvo to its core.
Changes to the performance department are highly unlikely given Volvo revitalized the engine lineup only two years ago. But even in light of this, mild performance and fuel economy updates cannot be overruled. Assuming the fuel efficiency remains intact, the XC60 will still be at the top of the game with the impressive 26 mpg it gets for combined highway/city cruising for the front-wheel drive Drive-E T5 and T6 models.
The small luxury crossover segment is however not wanting in terms of options. Rivals include the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Lexus NX 200t, the 2016 Audi Q5, 2016 Acura RDX, and the BMW X3. While the options here are without a doubt impeccable, the 2017 Volvo XC60 is still deserving of your attention given its strong safety credentials, and family-friendly practicality all with some Swedish flair.
