With the latest spy photos emerging and giving us a look at the Shelby GT350 vehicle doing laps at the Nurgburgring track, it confirmed that a 2016 model is close to its release. The label which was originally launched by Ford is finally spotted and leads us to believe that we are finally in for a new product that bares the GT350 emblem on it.
The originally vehicle was produced in 1965 and it immediately announced its collaboration with Mustang that lead to the label’s first release in 1966. The original vehicle was able to produce 271 horsepower, but with the Mustang updated that added a 4.7-liter V-8 engine, front disc brakes, heavy-duty rear axles and larger rear drum brakes, the car jumped to 306 horsepower. The model continued for a few years with only cosmetic changes opposed to performance upgrades and the brand gradually disappeared afterwards until it was brought back for the 2011 season as its fifth-generation reincarnation. This new 2016 Shelby GT350 is going to be the sixth-gen vehicle that comes out from this line.
The new car is set to appear in 2016 and it will feature a new addition which is going to be an added independent rear suspension. Besides the new photos and pictures that have been released recently there are some newest news about the car. You can read all about them in this review and find out what is new for the GT350 label. You can see all the latest specs and release date announcements here as well.
2016 Shelby GT350 exterior
The exterior look of the 2016 Shelby GT350 will make this one of the more meaner cars coming with a Shelby badge on it. With an aggressive appearance and a mean look the vehicle is going to be a standout presence on the roads. Compared to the base Mustang car, this one is going to be completely different as the only similarities that it will bear to the Mustang are going to be the B-pillars and the headlamps. The nose of the car has been shrunk and honed down and it seems as if the hood has been stretched over the engine bay. Parts of the front side of the car have been set as low as inches from the ground. The new design of the front end of the car accounts for a more aerodynamic design and enables the car to swoop through the roads in a grand manner.
Additionally, thought out the body of the car every hole vent has gotten larger and the added splitter also accounts for more swoopier look and design. The fog lights have been completely removed this time and instead of them there are some vents that provide cooling to the brakes. Also the nose badge has been replaced with a offset Shelby badge at the front. The 2016 Shelby GT350 also gets a new profile and some lightweight alloy wheels as well. The 19-inch wheels are extremely light now but somewhat stiff. Over the wheels there is a new set of aluminum fenders which manage to draw out rough air. In the back, a new diffuser has also been added all with the aim of enhancing the aerodynamic features of the car.
The inside of the car fits the outside sporty character of the 2016 Shelby GT350 very appropriately. It gains an updated cockpit which has all the elements of a great sports vehicle. The steering wheel has a flat bottom and also the front part comes with some Recaro seats, which are specially designed for track driving as they provide more comfort that way. They come covered with special cloth upholstery that has been made especially for the GT350 brand.
As this is a sport vehicle and a track ready one, the dashboard has been decluttered and all of the chrome details have been removed from it order to reduce glare. It provides less distraction to the driver at higher speed which is the most important thing here. The interior also features some driver controls which enhance the driving ability, like the stability and traction control systems, ABS brakes, suspension stiffness and even exhaust tuning. The car also offers a lot of unique driving modes as well.
Now comes the interesting part about the 2016 Shelby GT350 which is of course the engine. What is under the hood is always the most important part when it comes to sport oriented vehicles. The most important news is that the newly added 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V-8 replaces the previous 5.0-lter Coyote V-8 one. With the output of 500 horsepower, this makes the vehicle the most powerful naturally aspired engine ever produced from Ford. This setup also enables the car to reach a number over 440 pound-feet of torque as it comes with a lightweight six-speed manual that transfers all the power through special Ford-tuned Torsen limited slip differential. The 2016 Shelby GT350 is able to sprint to 0-60 mph under 4 seconds and also has a top speed of 175 mph.
