If performance is a priority, buyers shopping for a luxury crossover SUV will find the 2017 BMW X5 to be a fine choice. One notable feature the 2017 X5 offers over the previous model is the standard xLine trim package that was offered as an option previously. Others include Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and wireless phone charging. Its release date has been set for early 2017.
Some of the significant strengths the X5 offers include strong powertrains, advanced safety features, and a bright and stunning interior cabin. The BMW X5 has for quite some time been the benchmark luxury SUV setting the bar by which others within the segment can be compared. It is immensely comfortable, offers unmatched of-road capability, and its on-road manners are simply impeccable. The only thing that seems to dog its reputation is perhaps its aging sheet metal. Life aboard it is characterized by better exterior visibility, beautiful infotainment system, great materials, and good dash.
New features offered for the first time include a stainless-steel underbody cladding, an anthracite headliner, matte silver grille, front air intakes, rocker panels, “star spoke” nineteen-inch wheels, and satin aluminum roof rails and window trim. Wi-Fi connectivity and wireless phone charging are available for the X5 35i, X5 35d, and X5 40e models.
Base model buyers will get a potent, corporate turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder engine that provides 300 hp and 300 lbs. ft. of torque driving either the RWD or the AWD configuration. BMW says that power should be enough to move the vehicle from 0-60 mph in just six seconds. The rest of the available engines are covered under the “engine specs” review piece. So, read on to know their capabilities.
Moving on, the X5 seats up to seven passengers comfortably within the three rows it comes with. While the first two rows offer exemplary head- and legroom, the third row is a bit cramped relative to the available competition. We’d advice users of the X5 to leave the third row to elementary school going children or use it as an extra cargo space. Those looking for a usable third row space may want to check out the BMW X3.
Rivals in this segment are impressive but few, something expected given the hefty price point vehicles in this segment start from. Albeit costs more, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo 2016 is another option to consider for its superb handling limits. The Mercedes-AMG GLE63 2016 is a fine choice for anyone looking for some bits of freshness, and a flawless interior. Buyers can also check out the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR 2017.

2017 BMW X5 Exterior Review
Compared to its ancestors, the current X5 styling has a softer approach. It gets a wagon-esque appearance thanks to the lower window line and tapered roofline combination. The headlights and LED taillights have been slightly redesigned and inject some wedge into its shape. The exterior color palette remains unchanged. Other than few changes, there’s nothing else substantial to report about the exterior.
Notable exterior features include a blacked-out grille, bright window sills, brighter metallic flourishes, and an under-mirror trim. The M sport gets bigger wheels, high-gloss roof rails, and a body kit.
