Undeniably, Tesla seems ambitious. Framed as an affordable alternative to the successful Model S, the new 2017 Tesla Model 3 promises a lot of value, long range, and upscale specs. There have been a plethora of speculations and rumors about the Model 3, as little is known about the vehicle but the review below will try as much as possible to demystify them. The Tesla Model 3 release date should be expected sometime in early-2017, at least according to sources privy of its development.
Recent announcements by Tesla put its price at an MSRP starting from $35,000, and a range of about 200 miles. Considering the 2017 Tesla Model S sedan starts from an MSRP of about $70,000, the Model 3 is simply a bargain. And even with such a rock-bottom price, the new model promise an excellent battery range, an extensive charging station infrastructure, sleek styling, impressive performance, and ample interior and cargo space.
The Model 3 is a car that has a performance pedigree capable of thrilling even the most seasoned automotive enthusiast. In fact, similar to the Model S, its luxury features and technologies, its comfort amenities are only comparable to vehicles such as BMW and Mercedes.
But even with such lustrous spec’s sheet, the only two major concerns for anyone looking to buy an Electric Vehicle is charging time and range. That said, as mentioned above, the new vehicle offers a range of about 200 miles. This is almost what its Model S bigger sibling offers. For starters, typical EV range is about 80-100 miles of electric charge, therefore, it is no-brainer that Tesla deserves a standing ovation with its Model 3.
Sadly, charging times’ details haven’t been provided yet, but we expect the new times to improve relative to other vehicles in its class. Aside from the obvious shortcomings of an EV, we expect the new vehicle to offer creature comforts and luxury technologies.
Some of the rivals the new 2017 Tesla Model 3 should expect to face include the BMW 3 Series, and the Chevrolet Bolt. The latter offers similar price tag and electric range but that’s as far as the similarities go. Of course, the Tesla Model 3 should be expected to offer better stylish and sleek looks. The Bolt’s acceleration is another concern, however, aside from the specs and athletics, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how the two get along. Tesla is also releasing its 2017 Tesla Model X pretty soon as well.
The BMW 3 Series, on the other hand, isn’t an all-electric car as the Bavarians are yet to offer one. But even with its internal combustion engine, Tesla still thinks it’s a potential threat to its Model 3. This is what is called ambition, in a nutshell. There is now doubt that the Model 3 will have an uphill task of beating the BMW 3 Series in terms of luxury, sportiness, and multiplicity of configurations.
2017 Tesla Model 3 Interior Changes & Exterior Pictures
The new 2017 Tesla Model 3 sedan exterior is expected to offer a seamless combination of stylish looks, comfort, and performance. The basic design language seems similar to that of the Model S, therefore, expect large wheels enclosed with curvaceous wheel arch, a long, sloping hood, and contemporary styling flourishes.
In terms of the dimensions, Elon Musk – Tesla CEO – has already mentioned that the size of the new Model 3 will be about four-fifths of the size of the Model S. that said, it only makes sense that the new model will come with a smaller footprint.
Some of the standard features offered for the base model will include a seventeen-inch touchscreen display, a 110-V power outlet, LED taillights and foglights, eighteen-inch wheels, dual UB ports, a rearview camera, HD and satellite radio, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a premium vinyl upholstery, cruise control, automatic xenon headlights, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, smartphone app connectivity, heated and power-folding exterior mirrors, automatic high-beam control, driver memory settings, automatic high-beam control, LED running and cornering lights, hands-free parallel parking functions, autonomous steering, a navigation system, and keyless entry and ignition.
2017 Tesla Model 3 Engine Specs
Although this is the part where things get a bit murky. Tesla hasn’t provided any specs to this end. What we know however is the fact that the vehicle’s range will be around 200 miles. Rumors allege that the AWD performance version will probably make around 410 lbs. ft. of torque and 370 hp, and achieve an all-electric range of about 280 miles.
Ostensibly, more details should be expected on its release date.
