2016 Chevrolet Malibu Release Date, Price, Specs, Engine – The new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu comes with a sharper new style and a bit more interior space that will include contemporary technology features. Chevrolet adopted a simple formula when refreshing the Chevrolet Malibu 2016.
Designers grafted the brawny room of the full-size Impalla – sweeping rear flanks, split grille, bold front end – onto a smaller midsize sedan, it’s first in close to a decade. The new-look Malibu is now 2” longer in overall than the current model in the market, and a wheelbase that’s close to 4” longer in order to give the vehicle a more interior room. Also, the vehicle is nearly 300 lbs. lighter, which should now help in terms of fuel economy.
New safety features will be in place which are meant to govern teens driving. This will, therefore, make the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu a well-rounded family car.
Engine Specs – 2016 Chevrolet Malibu
Several engine options will be provided under the hood of the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The base will debut with a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder engine rated at 160 hp and 184 pounds of torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed auto transmission system.
According to Chevy’s own estimates, the above mentioned powertrain will have a fuel return of 27/37 mpg in the city/highway. For the performance minded drivers, there will be the 2.0L 4-cylinder option.
With such an engine, expect an output of about 259 horsepower and 260 pounds of torque. The power will be transmitted to the wheels through the eight-speed auto transmission system. Again, Chevy estimated the combo will return 22/32 mpg in the city/highway.
A hybrid powerplant will also be forthcoming. Whilst making use of a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine and a two-motor electric drive, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid returns more than 45 mpg when combined.

The new and upcoming 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will debut in four trims: L, LS, LT, and top-of-the-line Premier model. All of the models will come standard with up to 10 airbags, and all but the base trim level will offer a rearview camera as standard.
Some of the optional safety features to expect include lane keeping assist, front pedestrian warning, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control and parking sensors. Also provided is a nifty nanny for parents with young drivers. The Teen Driver system, engaged with a PIN code, ensures parents are able to monitor their teen’s driving habits.
Parents, for instance, can preset a maximum speed which triggers visual and audible warnings if exceeded. Also, the audio systems maximum volume can be adjusted to a level that parents like. Other safety precaution features such as, traction control and stability control, if equipped, parking sensors, blind spot warning, and forward collision alert are automatically engaged and cannot be defeated by the user.
Parents may also review their teen’s driving habits, as the Malibu will be able to track the maximum speed travelled, distance driven and over-speed warnings, among other parameters. However, teens may decry the computer oversight role, but we bet parents will rest assured their teen is not engaging in recklessness.
The feature will be available on the optional LT models and standard on top-of-the-range Premier model. Other notable equipment will include either a 7” or 8” touchscreen display, which will be dependent on the trim model, 4G LTE connectivity with wireless phone charging pad, Wi-Fi hotspot and dual USB ports for rear seat passengers.
Price & Release Date of the New 2016 Chevy Malibu
The new Chevy Malibu will be available in dealerships by the fall of this year. Unfortunately, the pricing hasn’t been announced as yet by Chevrolet. The new technology updates and features will add an extra cost to the vehicle, but given the level of rivalry in the segment, we expect the updated model to remain close to the existing Malibu which has a price tag of around $23,290.
Some of the most notable competitors for the new Chevrolet Malibu include the Toyota Camry, which has undergone some improvements in its handling and interior quality, along with a solid reputation for its reliability, therefore, making it a compelling choice.
Another vehicle worth looking at is the Ford Fusion, which offers impressive fuel economy, power, unique styling and an array of tech features, makes it one of my favorites. Other quality choices worth considering are the Nissan Altima, Mazda 6 and Honda Accord.
