With the latest releases coming from the German automaker is the new series of 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class vehicles. This is going to be a luxury crossover series which will extend the life of the M-Class vehicles coming from this maker as well. This time the greatest innovation is see through the addition of a new swoopy coupe model that is added to the GLE-Class for this year.
The class which was formerly known as the M-Class, or the ML-Class, is getting a renovation this time and from now on will be called the GLE-Class. The class itself is not anything new or spectacularly different but it does manage to get a lot of new addition for the 2016 model year. The class was due for a renovation for some time now and the name change and a bit of a style change will do good for it and bring it some much needed refreshment to the class.
The new GLE-Class is not much closer to the X5 and X6 models as the changes are added on both the inside and out. Although the exterior of the car has not suffered that much changes and has not been drastically changed, more or the renovation has been made on the inside of the car. The recently released pictures showed us how much the vehicle has changed for the better how well it works for the brand. In this review you will find out everything that you need to know that concerns the new models and will help you learn the latest news, changes and specs about the latest Mercedes-Benz product. Also you can see what the competition brings with the models, 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 BMW X5 and 2016 Infiniti QX70.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class exterior
The car does get to change its name completely, but keeps some of the base characteristics for the new exterior of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. As the current model was a third-class car which was established in 2012 this is an extension or actually a mid-life refresh for the car. It uses the elements present in the aforementioned M-Class and provides it with a great continuation of the brand’s looks and refresh them completely. With the latest redesign which came in 2012, the car got a more road-orientated look which means a wider stance and a cartlike look. The design was refined and the car became a far more rugged utility vehicle.
The new design gains the better part of the changes right at the front of the car. With a more emphatic front end style the GLE-Class gets a drawn-back air dam, sculpted fenders, a chunkier grille. The changes are meant for the entire lineup and not just the GLE Coupe. As for the Coupe version is concerned, it is a complete new take on the utility mid-size vehicle. The look is perhaps misleading a bit as it adds a roofline which has a completely different arc that you would expect. The hatchback also gets a lip spoiler at the back while the side of the car is more organic looking and softer. The entire GLE-Class gets a much more established and modern look and is going to be the stronger side of the proposing vehicles.
On the interior of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class models there is not a drastically overted change but actually something that adopts the car to the new direction they are taking. The inside elements have been preserved from before and add a bunch of characteristics that are innovative for the class. The SUV models get something that is close to the current addition to the C-Class and S-Class vehicles and is a great refurbishment of the insides of the cars.
The changes include the new style sportier seats which update the comfort level for the driver. There is a new steering wheel which is a bit smaller than before and does come with a different kind of a style made to it. There is a new and updated infotainment system added that keeps the modernistic elements of the vehicle in check while the center console houses all of the COMAND controls with the touchscreen pad added there for better and more appropriate use. All in all, the ambience of the vehicle is much sportier and ergonomic than before and is a great new update for the car.
As for the powertrain of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class vehicles is concerned, there are going to be a several engine variants added to the mix. The One of the options is the 2.1-liter four-cylinder rated at 201 horsepower dubbed the GLE300d, which is a turbodiesel option which is based on the engine from the current E-Class vehicles. The GLE350 version is going to use the V-6, 302 hp with a rear-wheel drive and an added all-wheel drive as well while the GLE400 comes with an all-wheel drive as standard and uses the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6, 329 hp engine. All of these models will use a seven-speed automatic as their base option.
There is also going to be a plug-in hybrid GLE550e option which makes 329-horsepower, thanks to the direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6 which adds a hybrid module output of 114 hp and thus comes to a total of 436 hp and up to 19 miles of range. Inside the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 which is offered with an S trim version you get the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 rated at 550 hp or 577 hp for the S trim. It can accelerate to 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.
Finally inside the GLE Coupe you get two powertrain options. The Mercedes-AMG GLE450 4Matic uses a twin-turbo V-6 and is rated at 362 hp and 384 lb-ft, with a nine-speed automatic, while the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic will use the same type of engine and add 20-inch standard wheels to it.
