2016 Kia Optima Release Date, Price, Review, Interior – The new 2016 Kia Optima is wholly redesigned in anticipation for next year’s release. The vehicle is now slightly larger than the vehicle it will replace, which now means the vehicle will now offer more legroom, headroom and cargo volume than its predecessor.
Not only is the interior larger, but it’s now better and nicer than it’s ever been, with more comfortable seats, a wide center console and more sound dampening. Coming optional will be an advanced driver-assist safety feature.
Kia’s newest entry features a new engine among a total of three which will be offered with the vehicle. There will be a 2.4L four-cylinder, 2.0L turbocharged and the novel 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. The latter engine will be the newest entry under the hood of the new 2016 Kia Optima.

The Kia Optima will be available as a 4-door, five passenger sedan in one among the five trims to be offered. The Base model will come equipped with a rear-view camera, cruise control, USB input, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The SXL trim level will be exclusive for the United States market and will feature a special grille (shared with the SX variant), a 360-degree parking camera, 18” wheels, sport suspension, s retuned power steering system, HID headlights, heated and perforated front seats, a sunroof, and others.
All Kia Optima vehicles that will be provided as 2016 year models will come with driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock braking, side curtain airbags for the front and aft, and side airbags. Other advanced features to be provided will include back-up warning system, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, smart cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Lane departure warning will be provided optionally.
The Optima is going to have the standard set of vehicles that it is going against as the segment has already been established with the inclusion of such models as the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu, Toyota Camry, Mazda 6, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata.
Exterior Review & Interior Design
As expected, Optima’s new design language is evolutionary as opposed to being revolutionary and has built on the handsome cues of the 3rd generation sedan. The slightly redesigned ‘tiger nose’ grille is now both narrower and wider, while the headlamps have been restyled to blend in perfectly.
The front fascia is now more aggressive thanks to the modified foglamps that have now received vertical surrounds and moved further towards the fenders while the lower grille is now wider on the new car.
The 3rd generation Optima cues are more conspicuous around back, however there are tons of details that make this sedan unique. The taillights are new and come equipped with LED technology, while the trunk lid now features crisper character lines.
As with most designs, the new 2016 Kia Optima now features a comfortable and larger interior design. Kia’s designers put a lot of emphasis on designing the cabin. The details are simply exemplary while the stitching on the dash and doors, and tasteful metallic accents all contribute in making the new Optima’s interior a comfortable place to be. New features that will make the Optima a worthwhile expenditure include a stiffer seat frame to reduce vibration, heated passenger and driver seats, Nappa leather upholstery and others.
There will be two interior colors to choose from: Dark Aubergine and Rich Merlot are the new entrants in the existing color palette. Technological updates will include Kia’s UVO2 connectivity system, a 6-speaker audio system, 8-inch color system integrates both Android Lollipop and iOS 8, and fancier Infiniti Premium Audio System6, which includes Clari-Fi technology, 14 speakers, and a 630-watt digital amplifier.
2016 Kia Optima Engine Specs
Beneath the bonnet, the vehicle will continue to offer the naturally aspirated 2.4L 4-cylinder engine as well as the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine of the previous model. The transmission system will also remain as 6-speed auto transmission system.
However, both engines will have better fuel economy and slight drops in torque and power. The 2.4L’s output has now dropped to 185 horsepower and 175 pounds of torque up from 192 hp and 181 pounds of torque.
The 2.0L turbo, on the other hand, yields 247 hp and 260 pounds of torque. The 0-60 mph ratings have not been made available by Kia but we expect them to be better. Also, no talks of a hybrid powertrain have been made public yet but we expect the details soon.
