The GMC Terrain had the best selling year back in 2014, when the largest number of units were sold. But after that the sales immediately started slacking and were decreased dramatically, thus an upgrade was needed to get the vehicle back on track. The enhancements are going to be seen throughout the entire trim lineup as the announced trims, SL, SLE, SLT and the Denali of course, each get a visual enactment that is going to distinguish them apart. The SLE can be further set apart between the SLT-1 and SLT-2 trims which have their own entirely different set of tools.

Additionally, power has been left to the provided two powertrain options and two drive options. Depending on the need and usage of your 2016 GMC Terrain you can choose and make your own setup. Versatility is what graces the new car and high usefulness and is what will help the model get closer to the top of the compact crossover and SUV segment which is otherwise already filled with the likes as Mazda CX-5, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage which dominantly take the top. There are not many pictures currently available and we expect them to emerge after the official showcase in New York, till then learn more about the car through the review.

The better part of the changes imposed on the new 2016 GMC Terrain has been made to the exterior of the car. The visual enhancements mark the better part of the update that car has gone through and have many additions that were included here. The front end of the car combines with the better back end in order to provide an upscale look which was not present before. The grille has been updated to feature a black honeycombed backing and a three-bar chrome grille at front. There is an added C-shape chrome ring which wraps the newly featured daytime running LED lights which connect to the center bumper of the car. This allows the vehicle to visually get a bit more weight to the front end of it making it this crossover vehicle seem a bit more planted.

The car also uses the same C-shape design setup to the back end of the car. It surrounds the red reflectors placed on the rear bumper and comes with some chrome accents at the taillight area. The Denali trims come with the same look as other models but this one is enhanced with the usual Denali treatment which means adding more chrome for a flasher look. The 18-inch newly design wheels come as standard option while the Denalis get a 19-inch one. And completing the update are the added colors with White Frost Tricoat and Crimson Red Tintcoat as the two new emerging ones.

Interior

If casually observing the inside of the 2016 GMC Terrain you will not notice the many changes that have been made. But actually the inside is updated as much as the outside, with much detail paid to the center stack. The buttons of the infotainment system have been intuitively updated while the door button has been moved from the dash to the doors. The CD/DVD slot has been thrown out and replaced with a storage space compartment. The design of the shifter has been also made as now it holds the manual controls on its tip rather than them being placed on the dash of the car.

The seat coverings have been revised as well and now include some [premium cloth fabrics found on the  SL and SLE trims, while the upper trims get a an added optional “Saddle Up” leather color. But the most exclusive setting is made inside the Denali trims which use a Light Titanium and Jet Black color combination. The safety is upgraded as well as the SL and SLE trims get Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which was previously only available on the Denali trims.

Engine

As the aesthetics of the inside and out have changed, the powertrains of the 2016 GMC Terrain vehicle have remained unchanged. This means that the car still uses the 2.4-liter four-cylinder, as a standard option, and the 3.6-liter V-6 one as an optional one. Both engines have been boosted with the added direct fuel injection and variable valve in order to get better performance and power efficiency. The standard engine gives us 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque while the V-6 one brings an output of 301 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque. Both engines can be fitted to use the six-speed automatic transmission and regardless of your engine choice you can use the RWD as a standard or choose the AWD as the optional choice.
