2016 Ford Taurus Release Date, Price, Specs, Interior – It is a known fact that every automaker strives for a faster, lighter and more fuel efficient model when it all narrows down to the redesign of a truck of a car. Lighter begets enhanced fuel economy ratings, which in turn pleases the government regulators and shoppers, while faster cars essentially please everyone.
Ford hopes to capitalize on this trifecta with the upcoming unveiling of the new 2016 Ford Taurus – a full-sixe American sedan that promises nothing but amazing specs. For newbies, the Taurus is among the most spacious sedans known, thanks to the expansive and vast interior design.
Also, it is one of the heaviest sedans around, thanks to the old-fashioned chassis based on the Volvo design with the present model in the market weighing around 4,050 pounds and almost 4,500 pounds for the top of the range SHO O model and easily out masses close rivals like the Kia Cadenza and Chevrolet Impala by between 200 t0 300 pounds.
In order to shed some weight, Ford engineers will need to move the Taurus longer and wider to mimic Ford Fusion sedan’s chassis. This should also impact the handling positively. The new model will also address the interior design in for purposes of making the new Taurus competitive.
The cabin feels classy, the seats are remarkably cozy and the MyFord Touch system lends a high-tech edge. However, the tall center console, tall doors and thick roof pillars still feel confining, giving the Taurus an almost race-cockpit feel at the front compounded by a poor visibility at the rear and out of the sides.

The upcoming new Taurus measures about 5 meters from nose to tail and sits on 2.95 meters of wheelbase, which will definitely make it 50 millimeters longer than the Falcon and 110 millimeters larger than the Mondeo. The long wheelbase is designed to offer the kind of abundant second-row legroom that is most sought after in the Chinese market.
Other features have been designed with chauffeur-driven target market in mind which include the power-reclining rear seats with massage function and lumbar adjustment, a rear control panel in the center armrest for climate control operation, cupholders and seat and media settings.
Ford claims that it will extensively equip the vehicle with advanced technologies, sound deadening materials and precise engineering features that will create an exceptional quiet cabin compounded by a comfortable and smooth ride.
Ford is on record saying that it will make use of its global design and developmental resources in creating the Taurus, strategically immersing its engineers and designers in China early in the design phase for purposes of gaining an in-depth understanding of the market and the cultural factors that may define the vehicle’s design and preferences.
This is what Ford China chairman and CEO John Lawler had to say, “the Ford Taurus we are about to introduce today shows the amazing flexibility and strength of our One Ford plan, it combines the best of our large-car expertise and global product development with a clear understanding of what the Chinese customers in this segment have always looked forward to”
