2016 Ford Explorer Release Date, Review, MSRP Price, Colors – In case you have a huge family, chances are that you will most likely want a large and spacious vehicle that will capable of hauling your brood around. The new 2016 Ford Explorer will be the most suitable choice given the variety of updates and changes it has received for the 2016 year.
The changes include minor interior changes, refreshed exterior tweaks, updated safety features and a suspension tuning. And guess what? There is another kid on the block, the Platinum trim level which is going to be the top of the range model.
Another novelty is a 2.3L EcoBoost four cylinder banger that will take over the confines of power from the less powerful 2.0L EcoBoost four cylinder engine. The new model doesn’t look entirely different from the previous model since there are several carryovers, but there are tons of hidden changes.
Inside the cabin, you will find added USB ports that will keep your family entertainment and charging needs satisfied. Also, there will be the optional MyFord Touch system that is user-friendly than the previous ones.

The new 2016 Ford Explorer is large SUV crossover with a comfortable seating capacity of up to seven people, and is available in five trim levels: Base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum (new for 2016).
Standard equipment available in the Base model will include 18” alloy wheels, LED taillights, automatic LED headlights, rear privacy glass, a rear view camera, roof rails, cruise control, rear climate controls, air conditioning, a 60/40-split second row seat, a six way power driver seat, 50/50 split third row, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, Sync (entertainment interface), Bluetooth connectivity, USB/auxiliary audio inputs and a six-speaker sound system.
The XLT adds body-colour door handles, upgraded brakes, foglights, rear parking sensors, heated exterior mirrors, leather strapped steering wheel, an eight-way power driver seat, keyless entry and push button ignition, and satellite radio.
Still on the XLT, there will be the Equipment Group 201A package that will include dual-zone climate control, a nine speaker audio system, remote start and the Driver Connect package that will come consisting of: auto dimming rear view mirror, configurable gauge cluster displays, 8” touchscreen display, an SD card reader and refreshed Sync functionality.
The 202A package will include all of the above 201A’s equipment plus heated front seats, leather upholstery and front parking sensors.
On the other hand, higher on the 2016 Ford Explorer food chain will be the new Platinum model. It will include the Limited’s 301A package items plus adaptive cruise control, dual-panel sunroof, upgraded leather upholstery, premium Sony audio system, and aluminum and wood interior trim.
Options for the Platinum model will include a rear entertainment system while the 2nd row of captain’s chairs with power assist fold.
Engine Specs – 2016 Ford Explorer
Under the hood of the new vehicle will be three dissimilar powerplants. All of them will come paired to a 6-speed auto transmission system. The Base, XLT and Limited variants will get standard RWD while AWD will be an option.
Standard engine on the Base, XLT and Limited trim variants will be a 3.5L V6 engine that will be capable of producing around 290 hp and 255 pounds of torque. The FWD system will be provided for the three models mentioned or better yet an optional AWD.
In case you choose the AWD, you will get hill-descent control, Ford’s Terrain Management System and Hill-start assist. According to EPA ratings, the FWD system will deliver 17/24/20 mpg in the city/highway/combined, while the AWD will drop to 16/23/19 mpg in the city/highway/combined.
In our own road testing, we established that the 2016 Ford Explorer Limited with the base V6 went from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds.
Both the Sport and Platinum top of the range models will come with a turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine that is able to yield 365 hp and 350 pounds of torque. When properly equipped, the Explorer with either of the V6 engines will be able to tow 5,000 lbs.

Price & Release Date of the New Ford Explorer 2016
The price for the new 2016 Ford Explorer will start with an MSRP of around $31,000 for a base FWD system with a V-6 powerplant. The release date, on the other hand, will be in the summer of this year.
The competition has congested the market in this segment in a large way so we still get the Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Toyota Highlander, Ford Flex, Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave as potential models in the segment, but the Explorer puts own some immense resistance with its 2016 release.
