2016 Chevrolet Volt Release Date, Price, Specs, Interior – Coming as new in the upcoming 2016 Chevrolet Volt will be a new exterior look and an improved cabin. Also, the vehicle will have a reduced weight, redesigned interior, and a new electric and gasoline power units therefore making this vehicle an impressive follow-up of the original.
The automobile company hailed the Volt as a hybrid-electric game-changer upon its launch in 2011, but it hasn’t quite worked out that way as we should have expected. Given that the vehicle has been able to outsell every other hybrid in the United States that is capable of recharging from a wall socket, it hasn’t really challenged the positions of mainstream electric/gas hybrids like Ford Fusion and Toyota Prius.
Chevy even shaved 5,000 USD from the current car’s price tag just to ignite the sales. However, with some refinements in fuel efficiency and improved range, the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Volt will most certainly get the much needed momentum and consideration among hybrid shoppers.
Exterior Photos & Interior Changes – 2016 Chevrolet Volt
The next-gen Volt starts with a new chassis that will come as a replacement to the modified Cruz platform under the existing model. This reduced weight will bring about an improved packaging, however, the familiar T-shaped battery pack will still remain. But, in a new twist, the aft seat has been belted for only three occupants.
It might be a stretch to call the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt a 5-passenger car. Admittedly, the center space is hardly wider than an armrest and middle passenger’s legs need to straddle the rather invasive center channel. In overall, the rear headroom is also limited to some extent, thanks to the Volt’s sleek and coupelike design.
According to what Chevy says, the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt lithium-ion battery pack now weighs 21 lbs. less than the current model and stores more energy with even fewer cells. Also, the battery cells are mounted about half of an inch lower in order to improve its stability through reduced center of gravity.
The three driving modes will remain intact as before and will be the standard Normal, Sport and Mountain drive modes. Additionally, there will be a unique control that will allow the driver to adjust the amounts of regenerative braking energy and deceleration that can be sent to the battery pack as charging power.
For charging, there will be a GPS-based system that will be able to save users time by automatically initiating charging as soon as the Volt has been plugged in away from home. Receiving a thorough overhaul in the interior is the revised center stack design that will be able to dispense better. Also, the Volt will offer an inductive charging pad for wireless devices.
Other features that will be included in the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt will include leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, navigation and driver aids (lane-departure warning, lane keeping assist, automated parallel parking and parking sensors) will be optionally provided.
Price & Release Date – Chevrolet Volt 2016

Engine Specs of the New 2016 Chevrolet Volt
Working in conjunction with a new 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine will be two electric motors to power the Volt. Working alone, the two electric motors yield around 149 hp and 294 pounds of torque, while the 4-cylinder contributes about 101 horsepower whenever asked.
The 4-cylinder essentially works as a generator that is able to send electricity to the battery pack, however, it can also come to task as a ‘range extender’ engine capable of powering up the Volt once the primary battery charge gets used up.
The engine is able to drive the vehicle unaided or blended with the electric motor, reliant on the prevailing conditions. The new 4-cylinder also runs on regular unleaded fuel and not the premium grade that is required by the engine currently in operation.
With a total weight loss of about 243 lbs. and improved efficiency, makes for a quicker acceleration and improved range. Chevy says that the new vehicle will be able to sprint from 0-60 mph in a record 8.4 sec – more than half-second faster than the 1st gen Volt that we tested. It also achieves 12 miles in combined electric driving range to a new maximum of 50 miles, which is impressive by conventional standards.
With a full tank of gas and fully charged battery, the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt is able to cover 420 miles and return 41 miles per gallon in overall fuel economy.
