We can view the new 2016 X5 as a benchmark for any luxury SUV out there. The car offers an abundance of on board features and a lot of luxury inside. It is first and foremost aimed at people who want to drive around with their families and thus offers a lot luxury and comfort inside. There are some off-road abilities present, but the luxury part takes its tool and outweighs them. But in fact this is done on purpose so there is no particular need of going off-roading with this kind of car.

The car takes much of its design cues from its ancestor and borrows a lot from the X3 car, but it is a beautiful blend of outside handsomeness and inside comfort which everyone enjoys and appreciates. This segment can prove to be quite competitive which is further emphasized by the vehicles that are in, the likes of 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and Infiniti QX70, but the BMW X6 as well. The new 2016 BMW X5 borrows some design cues from the previous X3 vehicle, but does not do it too much as it concatenates on the future and does not dwell in the past too much. The X3 is mostly present in the sideview while the front part of the car is a combination of some of the present day BMWs that were released in a few last years. The car uses a combined tapered roofline with low beltline design to make its vehicle appear quite handsome and contemporary. This is a prefect combination for the newest X5 as it gives it a perfect appearance of a sport wagon.

The side of the car features some side sculpturing, which actually is a styling cue that is used in the Mustang and C-class vehicles that which actually makes the car look a bit slimmer. With this addition the car has visually lost a lot of weight and a brand new design has been imposed like that. There are some scoop-outs on the sides that direct the air flow backward and make the car more aerodynamic that way. With the added character line that which is placed to pull out from the front fenders toward the LED taillights gives the car a certain wedge that was not present here before.

The inside retains the look that is seen in the present day BMW vehicles. If you have ridden recently in a car that has been released by BMW just couple of years before, you will have no trouble adjusting to the inside of the 2016 BMW X5 exterior. There is only one deference, as the car still uses a horizontal-shelf layout which in this case is wrapped around by another layer which merges with the rest of the dash.

The cockpit style instrument panel is still there and works very well with the new refresh to the car. The interior trims choices which were used before are still here, so besides the standard poplar wood trim and black leatherette upholstery, you can choose the additional one which are the Ivory White Nappa leather that matches with a an oak trim. But the xDrive50i is only available with Dakota leather.

The base engine for the 2016 BMW X5 is going to be a familiar choice which was seen the previous year. The base engine remains the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo, in-line six-cylinder 300-horsepwered version. This setup is good for attaining the 0-60 mph mark in 6.1 seconds. The  xDrive50i’ comes with a choice between a V-8 and a diesel engine, but  if we were to count the acceleration rate only, then the V-8 engine is a better choices The diesel engine can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, leaving the V-8 0-60 mph acceleration rate at 4.7 seconds. But the diesel option more than makes it up with its fuel economy ratings and its towing capability. There is an offered plug-in hybrid powertrain also given this year which beside good fuel economy also comes with an acceleration rate at 6.5 seconds that it needs to reach 60 mph.
