The first details of the second generation Audi A5 allege that the model will be put on a very strict diet, the company aims to shed some pounds – 220 pounds just to be specific. This move by Audi will help reduce the fuel consumption without the need to downsize the engines.

Speculation is rife that the vehicle will be provided with an electric range for the first time, but no word about it has been diverged.
According to caranddriver, the second generation of the Audi A5 will join the 2015 A4 on the 2nd iteration of Volkswagen MLB modular-longitudinal architecture popularly known as MLB Evo. The platform is also rumored to underpin the next-gen Audi A6, A8 and VW Phaeton.

As already mentioned above, the company will provide the new vehicle with two thirds of the previous model’s engine line-up albeit modest increments in power. The engines include a 2L turbocharged four cylinder mill presently in the base model and capable of yielding up to 211 hp and the 3L supercharged V6 currently in the S5 capable of yielding around 333 hp.
