Some four years ago, the German automaker needed to upgrade the Passat vehicle and enabled it to make a jump to the mid-size sedan level. It actually did wonders for the Volkswagen Passat car and brought it large popularity on the US market. Yet the car is still not selling as they would want it to be as this is a highly competitive segment on the US side. Thus the Passat needed and immediate boost for the 2016 model year.

The previous designs of the Passat posed a safe and a bit dull look, which was largely unappealing to the crowds. Although a good vehicle it did not manage to reach its potential that it promised due to the shortcomings it had with its design characteristics. That is why the 2016 Passat is going to become much more livelier looking and is going to be updated on the exterior. As you can see from the initially released pictures of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat, it is making a big difference immediately. And when you are competing against such vehicles as Kia Optima, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or the Chevy Malibu there are bound to be some hardships. But, read the rest of the review and find out all about other specs about this car.

The new 2016 Volkswagen Passat makes great use of its redesigned exterior. It adds a bit more excitement to it and a large presence for the car which was missing for so long. The sophisticated look is achieved with the dynamic details that are possible at a mid-cycle refresh. It uses both the front and back tweaks to update the look of the car. The front side of the car use the new tree spoke grille to its advantage greatly and also puts a domed hood at its front side as well. There are both LED headlights and taillights and the back side also adds some more chrome to its design this time. The look is fairly sophisticated now and is a great change compared to what we got last time.

The R-line trim does not upgrade the performance in any significant way but adds some new elements to the car’s exterior. It utilizes some back accents now, unique alloys with Z-rated rubber which helps to balance the seats on the inside and also adds a new rear diffuser.  All in all, this is not an example of a revolutionary kind of a design but it is one which is very suitable for the newest Passat. The added elements will make it more likeable and popular as well.

Engine

2016 Volkswagen Passat engine

The 2016 Volkswagen Passat will be offered with two engine options this time. The base engine choice would be the 170-hp, 1.8-liter turbocharged engine variant which also adds direct fuel injection and uses four cylinders. It provides a very appropriate torque number which gives you a modest rating and the ability to do with it whatever you want.  This engine option also gives us a 38 mph on highway as the new EPA rating. But if you would want to have something a bit stronger, then there is also the 3.6-liter ‘VR6’ six-cylinder engine option given, which enables the Passat to reach 280 hp. It is both strong and smooth but the down side is that is only offered as an automatic, while the previous engine can be fitted with a manual transmission as well.

Interior

On the interior, the 2016 Volkswagen Passat offers some modest ratings. Perhaps the front seat accommodation is not to its highest level but it does manage to come with some decent specs, but the back seats are now very much enhanced compared to before. They are not the best in the class but are among the best of the Volkswagen cars and provide more than enough spacing at the back and give the passengers a way to relax while being driven. With the added comfort come the heated back seats as well and more headroom than you would have expected from this vehicle to actually have.

Interior

The interior of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI is pretty overwhelming. It offers us very comfortable and impressive setting made in a typical European style. The inside of the car has been made with the emphasis on comfort, for both the passengers and the driver. There are some soft touch materials on various surfaces of the car and some sport trim upholstery that combine with some red stitching added. The control layout is intuitive and appropriate for the driver to handle and offers him easiness of use while driving. But the greatest change here is the added and enhanced technology which upgrades the car immensely.

2016 Scion FR-S exterior

Contrary to what you may think, the 2016 Scion FR-S does not draw inspiration for its exterior design from the Japanese car way of manufacturing but actually looks more contemporary than that. The new FR-S is sleek, very low and very curvy, that may be the gist of things but there is a lot more going on for this car. The car has a defining element of any sport car which is a long with short deck proportion. This old school feature is an interesting addition to what the car looks like and is one of the prime elements of its design. Some fine details were added to the nose part of the car and they include a wide grille with some wide openings as well and sharp angled vents. It also adds a low fascia design with some smooth curves that flow into the hood and the fenders.

The fenders at the front have been made to be a bit flared and actually flow over and are bulged from the hood line. Looking at the sides we notice a simple side profile that shows us the roofline which goes up first and dives down with a gracefully made arc. This actually makes a bridge between the rear fenders and the stubby designed tail and manages to do some great work with it like that. The bottom line is that this is some fine craftsmanship for the newest design of the 2016 Scion FR-S car.

Interior

The inside of the 2016 Scion FR-S has been designed in a minimalistic fashion. The cabin has a functional orientation to it and uses some durable plastics for the design of the dash which is enhanced with some carbon fiber trims. The molding is simple and functional and makes the cabin really usable for any kind of a situation and very appropriate for driving.

The upholstery has a monochromatic hue which actually brings the driver into perspective and also puts the gauge cluster of the car as the front part of it. All in all, the cabin is now a beautiful setting to be in. It is really comfortable and appealing to drive in one of this. Making the cabin prettier adds a certain character to the FR-S vehicle that the car did not have before.

Engine

Under the hood of the 2016 Scion FR-S vehicle you will expect to get a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Perhaps it does not offer as much torque as you would expect it but if you run it to 7,400-rpm it can provide you the added boost if you need. Actually this engine is a Subaru redesign and includes a Toyota’s direct- and port-injection system added in it and as that performs better and provides the necessary boost that you will need from a car like this one.
