As the new 2016 Volkswagen Passat is being released, it comes to us with a largely updated setup which brings us more details in its design and some updated safety ratings. The car does not shy from providing excitement to its fans and brings us a very drivable setup and experience when using this vehicle.
Some four years ago, the German automaker needed to upgrade the Passat vehicle and enabled it to make a jump to the mid-size sedan level. It actually did wonders for the Volkswagen Passat car and brought it large popularity on the US market. Yet the car is still not selling as they would want it to be as this is a highly competitive segment on the US side. Thus the Passat needed and immediate boost for the 2016 model year.
The previous designs of the Passat posed a safe and a bit dull look, which was largely unappealing to the crowds. Although a good vehicle it did not manage to reach its potential that it promised due to the shortcomings it had with its design characteristics. That is why the 2016 Passat is going to become much more livelier looking and is going to be updated on the exterior. As you can see from the initially released pictures of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat, it is making a big difference immediately. And when you are competing against such vehicles as Kia Optima, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or the Chevy Malibu there are bound to be some hardships. But, read the rest of the review and find out all about other specs about this car.
2016 Volkswagen Passat
The new 2016 Volkswagen Passat makes great use of its redesigned exterior. It adds a bit more excitement to it and a large presence for the car which was missing for so long. The sophisticated look is achieved with the dynamic details that are possible at a mid-cycle refresh. It uses both the front and back tweaks to update the look of the car. The front side of the car use the new tree spoke grille to its advantage greatly and also puts a domed hood at its front side as well. There are both LED headlights and taillights and the back side also adds some more chrome to its design this time. The look is fairly sophisticated now and is a great change compared to what we got last time.
The R-line trim does not upgrade the performance in any significant way but adds some new elements to the car’s exterior. It utilizes some back accents now, unique alloys with Z-rated rubber which helps to balance the seats on the inside and also adds a new rear diffuser. All in all, this is not an example of a revolutionary kind of a design but it is one which is very suitable for the newest Passat. The added elements will make it more likeable and popular as well.
The 2016 Volkswagen Passat will be offered with two engine options this time. The base engine choice would be the 170-hp, 1.8-liter turbocharged engine variant which also adds direct fuel injection and uses four cylinders. It provides a very appropriate torque number which gives you a modest rating and the ability to do with it whatever you want. This engine option also gives us a 38 mph on highway as the new EPA rating. But if you would want to have something a bit stronger, then there is also the 3.6-liter ‘VR6’ six-cylinder engine option given, which enables the Passat to reach 280 hp. It is both strong and smooth but the down side is that is only offered as an automatic, while the previous engine can be fitted with a manual transmission as well.

On the interior, the 2016 Volkswagen Passat offers some modest ratings. Perhaps the front seat accommodation is not to its highest level but it does manage to come with some decent specs, but the back seats are now very much enhanced compared to before. They are not the best in the class but are among the best of the Volkswagen cars and provide more than enough spacing at the back and give the passengers a way to relax while being driven. With the added comfort come the heated back seats as well and more headroom than you would have expected from this vehicle to actually have.
The greatest change for the 2016 Volkswagen Passat is seen at its cockpit, or more directly, its dash. It has been completely redesigned and now includes a VW’s MIB II infotainment system as its crown jewel. With the added capacitive touch controls and proximity sensing it allows you to get more added control options as your hand approaches the menu. The system is built with a VW Car-Net connected services which allows for more apps and more gadgets to be integrated and connected here. It uses Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink and can be connected with our smartphones and other devices.
Price and release date
The new 2016 Volkswagen Passat is certainly going to be a much better and a fairly interesting car than before. All the added elements will enhance the sales, but we shall see if this gets to be enough to hold the brand. The release date is scheduled for upcoming February, next year, when the car is available for sale. The base price has been set at $23,350, as base MSRP for the standard version of the car.
