Most car reviewers give the Toyota Corolla little respect and tend to give it a soulless appliance. Most of the reasons they site for their displeasure include the lack of flair and excitement, among others. But despite the negativity the Toyota Corolla brand has managed to be on the market nonstop and is now in its successful 11th generation.

Most of the strengths that will be associated with the forthcoming sedan are mostly concentrated in its exterior department. The infotainment system is intuitive and easy to use and has well-placed driver controls as well. Also, we like its rear seats designs that allow them to offer improved legroom in comparison to its rivals in the segment.

However, the sedan seems uninspiring from behind the wheel. Fortunately the crowded market segment provides more dynamic alternatives that include the fun-to drive Ford Focus, fuel-savvy Mazda 3, stylish and the inexpensive Hyundai Elantra. However, aim for the new Corolla for its fundamental competence and don’t let other cars distract you.

Specifically, the new 2016 BMW Z4 comes in three flavors: sDrive28i, which derives its inspiration from a 4-cylinder turbocharged 240 hp engine, the sDrive35i capable of cranking 300 horsepower, and lastly, the sDrive35is good for 335 horsepower. Sadly, the new Z4 also has a flipside among its many attributes, including but not limited to the costly price and inadequate trunk space. As for the price setback, we highly recommend you sample out the Mazda MX-5 Miata for 2016. Other worthy alternatives include the 2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK and Porsche Boxster 2016. Furthermore, there also exist some sporty convertibles, for example the BMW 2 Series and Audi A3. However, the 2016 BMW Z4 still remains the best choice.

Coming off from the previous redesign, the new Subaru WRX for 2016 boasts of the similar heaps of performance and power as before, for a considerable reasonable price. It comes with an agile engine touted as the most powerful in its segment, able to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Additionally, the vehicle is able to provide a comfortable ride even when the road gets a little twisty, thanks to the standard AWD system, nimble handling, and precise steering. And with the new STI version, the ante keeps on moving upwards.

Sadly, its interior designs remain conspicuously backdated, and the cabin isn’t as insulated against noise as much as we would love to. However, any potential would-be buyer should weigh in their priorities before finally settling on their choice. Fortunately, the segment offers lots of choices and alternatives to choose from. A good pick in terms of overall refinement and quality interior is the VW Golf GTI and the Mini Cooper. However, the Subaru WRX 2016 remains our ultimate car in terms of fun, affordability and performance, even with the new arrivals such as the 2016 Ford Focus and 2016 Mazda 3 model.

Available as only five seat sedans are the high-performance WRX and WRX STI models. The former comes in either base, mid-trim Premium or top-of-the-line Limited variants; the latter is only provided in base and top-of-the-range Limited trim.
