2016 Nissan Frontier – Release Date, News and Rumors

2016 Nissan Frontier Release Date, Diesel, Redesign, Specs – Mid-size trucks are in full revival this year – the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado are almost a year old while the Toyota Tacoma comes as new for 2016 the year. The new 2016 Nissan Frontier will mostly be a carryover from the previous model and will come with very subtle changes.

However, it is still a worthy competitor to the Tacoma, but ultimately outpointed in terms of performance, comfort, and economy by its General Motors rivals. The Frontier makes a debut from the previous era, but soldiers on with a right-sized do-it-all demeanor that still serves well.

The ageing is mostly manifested through the cockpit: while the exterior sheetmetal continued to be more interesting and modern even after all these years. Two cabs will be offered with the Frontier: King Cab and the Crew Cab.

Coming with four doors and a good rear seat space, the Crew Cab will certainly be the first choice for Frontier shoppers who need more space to transport more than two people on a regular basis. The driver will be afforded a comfortable and upright seating position.

Nissan has made a design that has blended enough modernism and traditional truck cues possible that will enable the truck last for a very long period of time. It still looks fresh and interesting – a feat that will be a pain in the ass of traditional rivals like GMC, Chevy and Toyota.

The exterior changes for 2016 will most certainly include reduction in weight, which, along with the diesel engine as we will later see, will drastically improve the fuel economy. The reduction in weight will probably be as a result of extensive use of high-strength frame, which is both lighter and stronger than conventional steel.

Other changes to be observed will include a sharper grille in the grille, new headlight options, alloy wheels, new side mirrors, and an extended palette of colors.

As for the interior changes, the new 2016 Nissan Frontier will sure please Auburn and Tacoma drivers with its high-tech gadgetry and refined amenities. Some of the few amenities which you will find cozy will include NissanConnect. It makes it possible for anyone on the vehicle to enjoy hands-free access to music, navigation, and more. Extra storage will be made possible by the optional overhead console for additional space especially for smaller items as well as flipping up the rear seats.

Another luxury will be the rearview camera which will come handy when monitoring rear traffic in order to eliminate accidents.

Engine Specs – Nissan Frontier 2016

Under the hood of the new 2016 Nissan Frontier will be a choice of three engine options which will include a 2.8L inline 4-cylinder Cummins diesel option, a 2.5L four-cylinder and finally a 3.5L V6 powerplant.

Unfortunately, the stats for the 2.5L and 3.5L are highly concealed, but we do know those of the 2.8L inline which will provide an output of around 200 horsepower. While considering it’s a midrange option, we expect the top of the range engine option, which will most certainly be the 3.5L V6, to peak somewhere at a high of 200/low and 300hp/high.

The fuel economy ratings have not yet been provided also, however, judging from the 2015 Nissan Frontier, it provided 23 miles per gallon on the highway, so we should expect the same figures for the gas-powered engine options.

Finally, towing stats are yet to be released, but considering last year’s model pulled 6,500 pounds, we should therefore anticipate something more. The Frontier doesn’t fare well in terms of safety scores due to lack of recent crash-test data. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) doesn’t have any conclusive ratings as yet, but IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) give it a ‘good score’.

Some of the safety features include a rear view camera and sonar parking sensors. There will be no forward collision warning systems for the Frontier.

Very few cars have been able to embody the concept of optimizing bang for your buck more than the GT-R. Ever since arriving on our shores in 2009, the Nissan GT-R has consistently showcased the performance of a supercar. Back then, all it cost to buy yourself a 485 horsepower kaiju was $70,000 and was able to dispatch the likes of Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo without breaking a sweat.

However, with the consistency in enhancements over the years and significant increases in standard features and equipment, a new GT-R now lies within a six-figure territory. Despite the impressive hullabaloo, the biggest drawback to Nissan’s high end model is the lower level of refinement when compared to other high-end sports cars.

Many sports cars within its segment strike a more conciliatory balance between performance and comfort while the GT-R is solely laser focused on attacking challenging roads with tight turns. Also, affordability might raise some questions especially for the Nismo trim which comes at cost of almost 50% more than GT-R’s base model.

2016 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date and News

2016 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date, Specs, Review, Price – Shoppers in the market eyeing for a fuel efficient 2016 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid should scratch the thought out of their minds. Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore in an interview told us that the Pathfinder Hybrid has been discontinued.

“Our stress is on the 3.5L V6 Pathfinder that achieves a best-in-class 20/27 mpg in the city/highway fuel economy,” Bedore wrote to us in a rejoinder to a query. The Chief rival of the Pathfinder remains the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which continues to be available at some Infiniti dealership stores in the United States.

In case you have been searching for a vehicle capable of transporting seven passengers in reasonable comfort, then the 3-row Pathfinder could be what you have been missing out on. While the Pathfinder used to be a true Sports Utility Vehicle that rode and took pride on a truck platform, its 2015 design ushered in what industry pundits might term ‘carlike crossover SUV design’.

The materials used in the 2016 year model are quite nice, though, with good materials and alluring features. However, despite the glamour and fascination the Pathfinder may tend to bring forth, there seems to be better alternatives. Such include the Toyota Highlander, which has a superior V6 powertrain and is a well-rounded choice. For something sportier, you can as well check out the Mazda CX-9 and Dodge Durango.

According to what many well-placed sources we have interviewed have said, we expect the new 2016 Nissan Pathfinder to be offered in the same trim variants as before. We can also see that on available photos of the car. This, therefore means we should expect the base S, mid-trim SV, and top ranging SL and Platinum models.

Standard equipment you should expect on the entry-level S model includes , a roof rack, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a manual height-adjustable driver seat (with manual lumbar adjustment), a reclining 50/50-split third-row seat, 60/40-split-folding second-row seats (with slide and recline), a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a six-speaker sound system with a six-CD changer and cruise control.

The SV model adds a front tow hook, automatic headlights, remote start, an eight-way power driver seat, rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth phone connectivity, , an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 7-inch color multi-information display, an upgraded audio system with a single-CD player, a USB/iPod interface and satellite radio, and a rearview camera.

Stepping up to the SL trim level gets you heated mirrors, foglights, leather upholstery (first and second rows), heated front and second-row seats, a power liftgate (with position memory), driver memory settings, a blind-spot warning system, , a four-way power passenger seat, and rear cross-traffic alert. Opting for the SL Tech package adds a 360-degree parking camera, a larger 8-inch touchscreen display, towing preparation (also available separately on SL and SV), a 120-volt household-style power outlet a navigation system with voice controls, and a 13-speaker Bose audio system with Bluetooth audio connectivity.

Engine Specs – 2016 Nissan Pathfinder

We don’t expect any changes under the hood of the Pathfinder. As earlier mentioned, the new vehicle will be powered by a 3.5L V6 capable of yielding around 260 horsepower and 240 pounds of torque.

Nissan-Pathfinder-2016-Engine-v6-3.5

It uses a Continuous Variable Transmission system and can either be mated to a FWD or AWD system. The all-wheel-drive system includes a switch and hill-descent control that allows the driver to lock power distribution in a 50/50 front-to-rear ratio, which is especially handy in dirt roads and in the ice.

Since we haven’t figured out the EPA ratings, we will reminisce those of the previous model since both models will use the same engine. The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder AWD went from 0-60 mph in 8 seconds. EPA estimates for the model were 20/27/23 mpg in the city/highway/combined. It is our hope that Nissan will improve on those numbers in order to remain competent in the market.

Standard safety features that we expect will feature in the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder production model include antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, stability and traction control and full-length side curtain airbags.
